What is the project?

The Kenya Project exists to offer personal, spiritual and financial support from All Saints' Church, Dedworth to the Ndumbuini Hill School in Kabete, north-west of Nairobi.  The project was set up in 2001 as a result of a personal visit by a parishioner.  The decision was taken by the PCC to pledge £10,000 over five years to the school. A different member of All Saints' visits Nairobi fairly regularly for work reasons so the personal contact is maintained.

The school was founded in 1990 as a Day Primary School where pupils usually pass from Standards 1 to 8 but here they only go up to Standard 5 as yet.  Children usually leave school at age 9 or 10 in Kenya, however there are some 15 year olds amongst the 40 pupils in the school because they started later. In 1999 the headmistress started to admit HIV/Aids orphans and other destitute children. As their parents have died they have to live with their grandparents or guardians.  In 2000 she had 40 such children and 10 paying pupils but was finding it very difficult to cope. The church decided to help her.
